Committed to protecting your rights, Robert R. Kurtz has represented individuals in State and Federal courts for more than ten years.  His practice focuses on representing individuals facing criminal charges in Federal and State courts throughout Tennessee.  


Robert was born and raised in southern Louisiana, near Grand Coteau, LA in the heart of the region known as Acadiana.  Robert grew up enjoying the unique cooking and sounds from the surrounding Cajun-French culture. In 1995, Robert received an undergraduate degree in history from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette graduating with honors.  In 2000, he obtained a Doctorate of Jurisprudence with Honors at the University of Tennessee, College of Law.


In addition to practicing law, Robert is deeply committed to contributing to the Knoxville community.  Robert served as an Adjunct Professor in the Innocence/Wrongful Convictions Clinic at the University of Tennessee, College of Law from 2009-2011.   Robert currently serves as the Criminal Justice Act District Panel Representative for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee.  In this capacity, Robert functions as the liaison between the bar and the federal judiciary.  Robert also serves on the Board of Directors for Federal Defender Services of Eastern Tennessee.    From 2006-2008, Robert served on the Wesley House Community Center Board of Directors.

Robert acted as the co-chair of the Continuing Legal Education committee of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.  In addition, he is a proud member of the Knoxville Bar Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.


Robert is an avid endurance cyclist and distance runner, having completed 7 marathons.  Robert brings this same determination and discipline to bear when representing clients accused of Federal crimes.  Robert and his family consider it a great privilege to call Knoxville, Tennessee home.
